Equipment

  • Chopping board
  • Kitchen knife
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Mixing bowls
  • Oval baking dish (9-inch)
  • Rubber spatula

Ingredients

  • 3 pieces medium-sized apples
  • 1/4 to 1/3 cup butter, melted
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 1/4 cup walnuts, chopped roughly (plus more for serving)
  • 1/4 cup raisins (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 200°C (375°F).
  • Combine the honey with melted butter.
  • Add cinnamon powder and use a whisk to mix.
  • Prepare the apples by peeling, coring, and slicing them thinly.
(For reference, I typically slice a medium-sized apple into 14 portions.)
  • Place the apple slices in a bowl and pour the honey and butter mixture.
  • Add the raisins and mix gently --- try to coat all the apple pieces.
  • Transfer everything into a baking dish.
  • Add some crushed walnuts on top.
  • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil.
  • Place the covered apples with walnuts in the middle of the oven for 30 minutes.
  • Remove the aluminum foil and continue baking the apples for about 10 more minutes.
  • Take the baking dish out of the oven and cool for 10 minutes.
  • Transfer your baked apples with walnuts into plates.
  • Serve with some whipped cream, plus more walnuts or raisins, if desired.

Notes

  • Cook's Tip #1:  Sultanas and dried cranberries are both great alternatives for raisins.
  • Cook's Tip #2:  If you cannot find honey, molasses is an excellent substitute because it will not overpower the natural sweetness of the baked apples.
