  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Mixing bowls
  • Baking tray
  • Parchment paper/Baking paper
  • Cooling rack

Ingredients

  • 240 grams flour (about 1 & 1/2 cups)
  • 4 grams yeast (1 teaspoon, heaping)
  • 70 grams yogurt (1/4 cup)
  • 105 ml water (1/4 cup + 4 tablespoons), warm
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Combine the yeast with warm water, then set aside until it's foamy.
  • While waiting, mix flour and salt in a separate mixing bowl.
  • Once the yeast is ready, add it to the bowl, together with yogurt and olive oil.
  • Mix, then once a dough starts to form, transfer it to a flat surface and knead until you get a smooth texture.
  • Form the dough into a ball and place it in an oiled bowl.
  • Cover with a kitchen towel and set aside until it has doubled in size (this typically takes 60 to 90 minutes).
  • Deflate by punching it in the center and divide it into six portions.
  • Shape each portion into a ball and place it on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  • Use a sharp knife to make a criss-cross cut on top of each bun.
  • Cover it again with a kitchen towel and set aside until they become puffy, which typically takes 30 to 45 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 200°C (375°F).
  • When the oven is ready, uncover the yogurt buns and place them in the center of the oven for about 30 minutes, or until they start to turn golden.
  • Remove the tray from the oven and transfer the buns to a rack to cool. Then, serve!

Notes

  • Cook's Tip: It's an easy-to-handle dough, hence, kneading by hand will deliver excellent results --- no need to use a stand mixer.
