    Ingredients

All the ingredients you need to make Nutella swirl muffins at home.
    • Flour – you only need all-purpose flour to make these Nutella swirl muffins.
    • Milk – remember that you should use buttermilk, not regular milk.
    • Eggs – medium-sized eggs at room temperature.
    • Butter – unsalted and softened.
    • Nutella – you only need a small amount (for the filling) and swirl on top.
    • Sugar – caster or any fine-grained sugar (not powdered sugar).
    • Vanilla extract – for that hint of vanilla flavor in your Nutella muffins.
    • Baking powder, baking soda, and salt – just use your favorite brand for these kitchen staples.

How to make Nutella swirl muffins

Start by preheating your oven to 180°C (350°F), then line your tin with muffin papers.

Strain the dry ingredients for your Nutella muffins: flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt.

Straining the dry ingredients is an important step in making Nutella swirl muffins.

In another bowl, combine sugar and butter.

Combining butter and sugar is the first step in making the batter for muffins with Nutella.

Mix until creamy, then add the eggs --- one at a time.

Add the milk and vanilla extract, then mix to combine evenly.

Add the strained, dry ingredients from earlier.

Dry ingredients are added to the rest of the ingredients for making muffins with Nutella.

    Mix just enough to combine.

Place a tablespoon of the batter into each muffin tin.

Add about a heaping half teaspoon of Nutella on top of the batter.

A teaspoon of Nutella is added to the muffin batter, to create the filling.

    Cover with the remaining batter.

Add a couple of dots of Nutella, then use a toothpick to swirl it around.

Place your tray of Nutella muffins in the middle of the oven for twenty to twenty-five minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean when you insert it in one of the muffins.

Remove from the oven and transfer to a rack to cool.

Sprinkle with powdered sugar, if desired --- then serve!

    Helpful tips

    • Make sure you use buttermilk, not regular milk.  Buttermilk improves the texture of the muffins because it works in conjunction with the baking soda.
    • You can add more Nutella in the filling or on top for swirling if you prefer.
The inside of the muffins, more Nutella goodness.

    Recipe variation

    • If you want a marble effect, use a barbeque stick or something bigger than a toothpick to swirl the entire muffin, not just the top.

Looks absolutely delicious, right?  Yep, and they're so easy to make!  So, make sure you try these Nutella muffins this weekend!
