    Ingredients

All the ingredients you need to make oven baked gnocchi at home.
    • Olive oil – use extra-virgin olive oil if possible.
    • Garlic – minced or grated.
    • Gnocchi – no need to make your own; buy them from the fresh pasta (or ravioli) section in your supermarket
    • Crushed tomatoes – just use your favorite canned brand.
    • Cheese – you need mozzarella and parmesan for topping your oven baked gnocchi.
    • Seasoning & herbs – parsley, basil, salt, ground black pepper, and sugar.

How to make easy oven-baked gnocchi

Start by placing a medium skillet or pan over medium-high heat.

Pour the olive oil, and once it's ready, add the garlic.

Sautéing the garlic is the first step in cooking the tomato sauce for the baked gnocchi.

Cook until it becomes fragrant, then add the crushed tomatoes, dried basil, parsley, sugar, salt, and pepper.

Adding herbs and seasoning to the tomato sauce, the base for the baked gnocchi.

Mix and lower heat --- leave uncovered and simmer for about ten minutes.

    Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).

Taste and adjust the seasoning by adding sugar, salt, or ground black pepper.

Add the gnocchi directly into the pan.

Adding the packaged gnocchi straight from the bag, before baking it in the oven.

Mix to combine everything evenly --- coating the gnocchi with the sauce in the process.

Top with the grated mozzarella and parmesan.

Adding mozzarella and parmesan on the gnocchi before baking in the oven.

Place the skillet in the middle of the oven for thirty to thirty-five minutes or until the top turns golden.

Remove from the oven and set aside for about five minutes.

Your easy baked gnocchi is now ready for serving!

    Helpful tips

    • No need to cook the gnocchi in boiling water --- just add it directly into the seasoned tomato sauce and mix to coat them.
    • Remember to taste and adjust the seasoning before adding the gnocchi.  Do not hesitate to add more sugar if you think it's too tangy (it varies depending on the brand of the crushed tomatoes you use).
    • If you want two layers of gnocchi, use a small pan instead of a medium-sized one.

    Recipe variation

    • Passata.  It is an excellent substitute for crushed tomatoes and has a deeper tomato flavor.
    • Herbs.  Aside from parsley and basil, you can also use thyme, oregano, or rosemary for seasoning your baked gnocchi.
    • Cheese.  I sometimes add cheddar for a more 'cheesy' flavor. 🙂
