Pan-Fried Gnocchi with Bacon is an excellent dish for busy weeknights!  Packed with flavor and texture contrast in every bite, you will surely ask for seconds!

A plate of pan-fried gnocchi, bacon and peas, served, with a fork next to it.

If you’re a fan of gnocchi, you should also try my crispy air-fryer gnocchi and baked gnocchi recipe --- absolute yum!

For this dish, there is no need to cook the gnocchi in boiling water beforehand.  You just add them directly into your pan of sauteed peas and corn.

There is no need for bold, intense seasoning either, so parsley and powdered allspice are perfect for this gnocchi and bacon recipe.

As for the contrast in texture, you get pillowy, soft gnocchi and crunchy bacon bits in every bite.  What more can you ask for?  It’s a quick and delicious dish for weeknight dinners.

Serve it as a main dish or a side dish --- better yet, have it with some leafy salads, and you’re all set! 🙂

    Ingredients

All the ingredients you need to prepare fried gnocchi with bacon and peas at home.
    • Bacon – you need seven to eight strips, sliced into no less than half an inch in width.
    • Gnocchi – no need to make it from scratch; use the ones you typically find in a supermarket’s fresh pasta section.
    • Garlic – minced or grated.
    • Onion – a small onion that’s chopped finely.
    • Corn and peas – I typically use frozen ones because I always have a bag of them in my freezer.
    • Herb, spice, and seasoning – just use your favorite brand for dried parsley, allspice powder, and salt.

How to prepare gnocchi with bacon and peas

Put the chopped bacon on a cold pan or skillet ---- and place it over medium-high heat.

Frying the bacon is the first step in preparing the gnocchi dish, using its oil as the base.

Cook the bacon bits until they become crispy; mix often to avoid burning them.

Remove from the pan and set aside.

Leave about two tablespoons of the oil from the bacon and add the garlic and onion.

Sautéing the garlic and onion using the oil from frying the bacon.

Saute until the onion softens, then add the allspice and some salt.

Allspice powder and salt gives a hint of spice to the fried gnocchi with bacon and peas.

Mix for a minute to cook the spice.

Add the frozen corn and peas.

Sautéing the frozen peas and corn, to add a bit of sweetness to the gnocchi and bacon.

Mix for about two minutes, then add the gnocchi.

Adding the gnocchi without cooking in a boiling water, saves a bit of time, and pan-fry in directly with bacon instead.

Cook for ten to twelve minutes, mixing often to ensure nothing sticks to the bottom ---- make sure you lower the heat as well.

Once the gnocchi are soft and fully cooked, add the dried parsley and the bacon from earlier.

Adding the crunchy bacon bits back into the pan as the last step for preparing the gnocchi dish.

Taste, adjust seasoning (if needed), and mix.

Remove the pan from the heat and transfer your fried gnocchi and bacon onto plates.

Garnish with fresh herbs, if desired --- enjoy!

    • If there’s not enough bacon oil left for sauteing, feel free to add some olive oil.
    • Take it easy with the salt, remember that the bacon bits are also salty.
    • There is no need to cook the gnocchi in boiling water first or to thaw the green peas and corn --- just add them directly into the pan.

    Recipe variation

    • Carrots.  You can use diced fresh or frozen carrots and cook them together with the peas and corn.  It adds another layer of sweetness to the dish.
    • Herbs.  Try using your favorite herbs (dried or fresh), like thyme or rosemary.
    • Spices.  Smoked or hot paprika are excellent options.
