Parsley Butter is a rich and delicious compound butter subtly flavored with fresh parsley. It's an excellent condiment for grilled meats, fish, or a chunk of bread --- an easy way to elevate your daily meals. Give it a try!
Parsley is a delicate herb, so you are correct to think that the creaminess of the butter might overpower it.
That's where the lemon juice helps. Not only does it provide the zing, but it also lightens and balances the butter's heaviness, giving your finished parsley butter a fresher and lighter flavor.
Of course, you must add salt and ground black pepper to balance everything out.
How to serve or use it? I generally spread it on some crusty bread or use it as an ingredient when preparing a whole chicken for roasting.
But that's just me. Some of my friends prefer them with fish or steak, some with roasted vegetables, so you do you. 🙂

Ingredients
- Parsley - I typically use flat-leaf parsley, sometimes called 'Italian parsley,' but you can also use curly parsley if you prefer its less intense flavor.
- Butter – salted or unsalted will work.
- Lemon – you will only use the lemon juice.
- Salt and pepper – just use your favorite brand for seasoning.
How to make butter with parsley
Combine the softened butter with the chopped parsley, half a teaspoon of lemon juice, salt, and ground black pepper.
Mix everything evenly. Taste and adjust as preferred (by adding salt, pepper, and more lemon juice).
Transfer your butter with parsley on top of a plastic wrap.
Roll and form into a log, then tie the ends tightly.
Store in the refrigerator for at least thirty minutes or until the log of parsley butter has solidified.
Serve or use as an ingredient for another dish.
Helpful tips
- Wrap the parsley on kitchen paper to absorb any excess liquid before chopping them finely.
- Do not add a teaspoon of lemon juice right away. Start with half a teaspoon, add a quarter, then add more if needed.
Recipe variation
- Garlic. If you like garlic, grate one small clove of it and mix it with the rest of the ingredients before adjusting the seasoning.
